Refinished the furniture that came on my Wasr when I bought it. Cleaned up and polished the bolt carrier, the grind marks were really bad under the blueing.

Wow that is a really nice refinish job. The wood you got started with must have been great too. What technique did you use to refinish?

The wood was just a blond looking wood that didn't appear to have much finish on it. It is a solid wood, not sure what kind but is whatever century put on it. The dealer I got it from had several Wasrs but this was the only one with solid wood and the only one that didn't have mag wobble. I stained the stock several times and couldn't get it to stain. This last time I used a cleaner like super clean and sprayed it on a few paper towels and then wrapped them around the stock and let it sit about half hour then washed the stock. I let it dry then sanded with 220 to smooth it back up. When I applied the stain it took right to it. They I finished with 4 coats of wipe on poly, using 0000 steelwork between coats. The wood is easy to change out so I figured with two different sets I can change the look whenever I like. While I was working on the wood I decided to clean up the bolt carrier and I think it really made the wood stand out even more. I have a wood pistol grip coming for it too that I will refinish the same.

Again, *very* nicely done.

Again, *very* nicely done. The fact that is is solid wood instead of multiplex makes a big difference I think. I never seen a WASR in the US that was sold new with solid wood. Usually that is an aftermarket thing. What color stain did you use?

Also again, great composition, I just want to stick those pictures on a mouse mat or a coffee mug or a cell phone cover or something:).

I've seen two Wasrs with the solid wood and I bought the one. The stock is solid and doesn't have the compartment for the cleaning kit. The stain is rust oleum cabernet with a wipe on poly applied over it. As for the layout I didn't really know what to setup and I know it's not a Russian rifle but thought it looked cool. Once I get my wood grip in and finished I'll have to do another one with the Bakelite mag.
