Does anyone have an opinion on which is best and/or fits best -- the Tapco retaining plate or the Krebs? The price is nice for either of them, but they look a fair bit different from each other and I definitely want the best fit. Thank you.

If I were to need one today,

If I were to need an AK Trigger group retaining plate today, I would probably go with the TAPCO... I like the little tab it has on the side that will help you manipulate it.

You are going to LOVE it compared to the original shepherds crook pin that comes with it!

P.S. TAPCO is also a company that I have had positive interactions with so in addition to the fact that I think their retaining place is a better design than the Krebs AK Retaining plate, I also think they deserve my business:).

That's EXACTLY the information I needed! Something as small as a tab that helps manipulate the retainer and something as LARGE as a company with good customer relations.

I'll also get one of the TAPCO 20-round magazines for my SKS...

Thank you!

You're welcome, let us know how that retaining plate worked out for you! If don't know if you have a lot of experience disassembling the trigger group (http://wasr-10.com/TriggerGroupDIY) with the original Sheperds Crook (http://wasr-10.com/KrebsRetainerPlate) but that pin is a real you know what if you don't do it too often:(

Let us know how that plate worked out for you. Take some pictures as you put it in and we'll post them here.

I did get a Tapco retaining plate and didn't have much trouble putting it in -- more trouble putting the selection lever back in than the plate. I don't plan on doing much disassembly in that area, but it's better to know it will be easier in the future.

Thanks again.

tapco also has a set of pins

tapco also has a set of pins that self retain without the need for the plate or the sheppards hook, I got a set of them laser engraved and they work pretty good. They also still have the capture groove if you want the double protection. I got them with the punisher skull and were 12 bucks. Just another option that I thought I would throw out there.

Hmmm, I must have missed

Hmmm, I must have missed those. Do you have a link to that product?

I can't seem to paste a link from my phone to this, but if you go to Amazon and type in punisher ak pins it comes right up. In the description it says krebs and tapco but when I got mine there was a tapco instruction with them but I can't find what I did with it. I couldn't find them not engraved anywhere but I wanted the engraving to personalize my wasr without it taking away from the looks of it.

Found them!PUNISHER KREBS

Thanks I Found them! Romanian Trigger Retaining (retaining) screws.
I can see how they have a screw on the other side that holds the pins in... Don't know if I like that but that is probably just on general principle:) But you have used them for a while and they work fine? Screws are not coming loose, they are still easy to remove etc?

Yes the screws seem to stay tight, I was going to use locktite but decided to see how they do without first and so far so good. The screw does stick out some but really not noticeable.

Thanks for letting me know. I

Thanks for letting me know. I guess they know what they are doing at Krebs... And can prevent their retaining pins from vibrating loose.:) Again, I can see how they are kind of cool, but I don't know if I would go for it myself. I guess I am a bit of a purist:). I like the simplicity of the AK and how everything just works without tools ans whatnot:). The whole less-is-more-thing. On a "tactical" AK that does of course not matter much.
