Hey everyone, I'm starting this topic to try and help the people that are out there trying to go back to what there rifle was. Either trying to refinish the stock to the color that was on it, or the metal finish that has worn off. I've tried searching online for a long time just to get some stain colors that might match original and never found anything, so I thought I would start this topic. I'm a gunsmith located in Roanoke VA, and sometimes customers will bring me there AKs for me to repair or refinish, and most of the time they are wanting to have the look they had when they first purchased them. Or there have even been instances where I have had to refinish a scuff or a scratch from the work that I have had to do on these rifles.
So I have some ideas and information on certain models that may help others to getting there's back to what was. As of now I only know some furniture tricks and ideas, which is why I started this topic so others may post what knowledge they may have to help out the rest of us. This is the first time really that I have made my own topic so if I didn't do it right please bare with me.

Your newest style Romanian WASR-10's with the non Romanian wood furniture without cleaning kit hole has a very light look. So the best thing that I have found for this is a water base stain called "GENERAL FINISHES" and the color that matches best is "PECAN". I will upload a pic of the stain itself as well as a patched area that I have done to show that it blended very nice with little need to do the rest of the stock and just added a little brush on MINWAX SATIN POLYURETHAN (please not some people use a lacquer instead of poly but the lacquer will begin to come off overtime do to rubbing from skin or cheek, or from harsh solvents). I did it as a test to see how obvious it would be to just patch, instead of going through all the time it would take to sand and refinish the entire set.
